Trevor Adkins never wanted to be called a hero. But this is just how he will be remembered forever.

“People called him a hero,” Hartzell Haines, Trevor’s step father told WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, NC. “He said, ‘Dad, I’m no hero. I was just doing my job. It was my job. I was doing it so other people can live free.’”

SPC Adkins is a graduate of Overhills High School in Spring Lake, NC. He enlisted in the Army in 2010. Carolyn Haines, Trevor’s mother explained that her son died living his dream.

“I was at peace knowing my baby was back home,” she said. “I guess I know where he is — he is back home. He is an American hero even though he doesn’t want to be called one, but he is and we are free because of people like my son.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Trevor’s name to: Friends of the Fallen.Org, P.O. Box 2081, Dover Air Force Base, DE 19902. Friends of the Fallen is a volunteer organization that provides a dignified place of comfort at Dover Air Force Base during the transfer of loved ones. It is a safe, welcoming supportive environment for families at this most difficult time.

One night at Four Peaks Brewery in Temepe, AZ, a man left a note honoring one of our bravest who made the ultimate sacrifice. SPC Adkins’ details were written simply on a paper napkin which was left to remind anyone who saw it that we can never forget the men and women who have died.
