SGT Billings looked forward to being home with his young family. Robert attended and graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in Deerfield Township, MI. He moved to Virginia, and met his wife, Christy, according to his grandmother, Elaine Billings. Robert enlisted in the Army. His first deployment to Iraq was in 2009. In 2012, SGT Billings earned an Associates in Arts, Criminal Justice from Liberty University.
“He was going to make this his last tour so he could be with his children and watch them grow up,” she explained, “They were just all over him when he’d come home.”
Billings came from a military family. His father served 20 years in the Navy, and his grandfather served in the Army. “It was just kind of in his blood,” said Elaine Billings.
High school teacher Tim Paczewski said SGT Billings made a lasting impression during his years at Morley Stanwood. Mr. Paczewski explained that Robert demonstrated “a lot of determination. He was very goal oriented when he was a student here; very likable, always had a smile on his face, got a long very well with his classmates as well as staff.”
Robert was the son of Kelly Eugene Billings and Hope Lea Smith Billings of Amarillo, TX. He was an active member of The House of Prayer in Clarksville, VA. He is to be remembered as a person who loved life, enjoyed people, and valued his family and friends. He was a dedicated an intuitive soldier.
