Chief Warrant Officer Billings was born on September 1, 1979, to Eva M. (Billings) Cooper, and Robert L Billings, in Poteau, in southeastern Oklahoma. Randy was raised in and went to school in both Poteau and Heavener. He graduated from Poteau High School in 1997, he was 16 years old.
Randy enlisted in the U.S. Army with the permission of his mother because he was just 17, a year short of enlistment age. This was the beginning of Randy’s Army career. CW2 Billings served his country for 16 years and loved what he did. He deployed twice to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. His last duty station was Fort Riley, KS. He was a member of Bravo Company 3-1 Aviation, First Infantry Division. He was a UH 60 Blackhawk pilot. CW2 Billings and five other soldiers were killed on December 17, 2013 when their the Blackhawk helicopter crashed because of enemy fire in southern Afghanistan. Bravo Company was supporting NATO forces in this area.
