Jerry Dustin Smith died Thursday, August 16, 2012. He was born October 20, 1988, in Morgan County. He was a loving son. He was a proud member of the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.

Military awards include the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, a NATO Medal, Combat Action Medal and a Certificate of Continuous Honorable Active Service.

A family member added that Jerry Smith served in Afghanistan. He was recently diagnosed and undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer.
