Jayme Lee Biendl was born February 6, 1976. Officer Biendl served with the Washington State Department of Corrections for eight years.

Correctional Officer Jayme Biendl was assigned to the prison’s chapel. She was strangled during an escape attempt in the Monroe Correctional Facility by a prisoner who was serving a life sentence. She was 34 years old.

Governor Chris Gregoire issued a statement about the killing:

“It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to the family and friends of Officer Jayme Biendl,” the statement read. “I am truly saddened by her senseless murder. This young woman was devoted to an agency that works around the clock to ensure our communities are safe, which makes her death all the more tragic. I ask all Washingtonians to join me in keeping her loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.”
