Private Curtis Zachary Shinneman, 23, of Hobart, Ind., joined the military in April 2007 as an infantryman. He was assigned to Alpha Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since December 2008. Shinneman deployed in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from August 2007 through August 2008.

Shinneman’s decorations and awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Zac was a fun and very loving young man. No matter the situation, Zac was sure to fight for what he believed in. He is and will always be our HERO! There isn’t a second out of the day that I don’t think about and miss him. Always Loved and Never to be forgotten!! ~Barbara LeRose

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, according to information from Fort Hood.
